Microblading F.A.Q.

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup. Coloured pigment is manually implanted in the superficial layers of the skin using a pen with tiny sterile needles. This produces the appearance of hair strokes. Microblading can last up to 2 years.

Do I need a separate appointment for the consultation?

No, you do not need a separate consultation for Microblading as it is included at the beginning of every Microblading appointment. Although if  you would like a consultation appointment separate from your microblading appointment you can book this online and it is absolutely free!

Is microblading for me?

If you have any of the following skin conditions, Microblading  will likely NOT work well for you:

Excessive sebum (oily skin)

Severe acne

Moles in the procedure area

Keratosis

Very dry skin

Additionally, if you are iron deficient or Anemic, the pigment will fade sooner, and bleeding/bruising may occur during and/or after the procedure.

What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?

If you have an ideal shape and colour in mind, bring a few reference photos with you to your appointment. You are more than welcome to fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can take into consideration the shape you desire.

All Microblading appointments have an optional shape service included with the cost, so please avoid waxing or tweezing your brows before your appointment. It is ideal  to work with the fullest brow possible to achieve the desired results.

We require our clients to avoid any blood thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen.

Do not drink any alcohol the night before and day of your appointment and limit the amount of caffeine you consume. It is also highly recommended that you avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for 30 days before and after your procedure. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

How long does Microblading last? How often do I need a touch up?

Microblading is considered semi-permanent and typically lasts between 1-2 years.

Frequency of touch ups depend on a number of factors including: the pigment colour used (lighter colours fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), iron deficiency (your body absorbs iron-oxide as a supplement), and if any chemical peels come into contact with treated areas.

Before semi-permanent tattoos fade out completely, the pigment colour may fade to a lighter brown, an ashy blue or have a slight grey hue. This is completely normal and can be adjusted with a touch up.

Touch ups are normally required at least once a year.

How many appointments are required to achieve a finished result?

Microblading is  done in two appointments; the second being booked approximately 4-6 weeks after the initial appointment.

Do my natural brows need to be shaved or removed?

No! We aim to keep as much of your natural brow hair as possible. Microblading works to enhance your existing brows and give you the fullest shape possible for your face shape. It is a good idea to not touch your brows (ie: tweezing, shaping) for as long as possible before your appointment. This way we have as much of your natural brow to work with as possible. A brow clean up will be provided at your microblaing appointment.

What should I do after the procedure?

After your appointment, you will be given an aftercare card with instructions, as well as a recommendation for an aftercare balm. O Please follow the aftercare instructions thoroughly.

Do I need to take a day off work? Can I go out after?

There is no downtime associated with Microblading. Redness and swelling (if any) will dissipate within 1 to 3 hours after your appointment has finished. Your brows will appear darker and scabby initially (especially the next day and for a few days following), but not so dark that you will be prevented from your activities. You can absolutely go out after your appointment!

Can I wear makeup while my brows are healing?

Yes, you can absolutely wear your regular face of makeup, however avoid getting any liquid or powder makeup on or around the procedure (brow) area during the initial healing period of 7 to 10 days, as it will cause discolouration of the pigment.

Can I have Microblading done if I'm pregnant or nursing?

As a precaution, we do not perform Microblading on pregnant or nursing women.

What health conditions would prevent me from getting Microblading ?

Microblading can not be preformed if you:

Are pregnant or nursing;

Are undergoing chemotherapy or have undergone chemo in the past 12 months;

Are sick or unwell;

Are under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs;

Have taken any pain medication within 24 hours prior to the procedure;

Have taken any anti-coagulant medicine (I.e. Advil/Ibuprofen) within a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment; Have a distinctive previous tattoo, a skin disorder or rash in the brow area;

Are under the age of 18;

Have Keloid scarring anywhere on your body;

Are on any acne medications such as Acutane;

Have had or are planning to have Botox, fillers, or injections within 2 weeks before or after your appointment.

If you use Retin A, please prohibit use for 2 weeks before and after your appointment; chemical peels extend the wait time to 4 weeks.

We require a doctor’s note if you have or have ever had a history of Keloid scarring, HIV, an autoimmune disorder, Hepatitis, Hemophilia, Diabetes, Epilepsy, heart problems, a skin condition that enters the brow area, take blood thinners or have any medical condition that might affect your body’s ability to heal in the procedure area.

What are Microblading  pigments made of?

The pigments used in cosmetic tattooing come in a variety of colours specially formulated with iron oxide, an ingredient safe for the skin. We do not use pigments made from organic ingredients, such as vegetables, as they have a high risk of carrying bacteria and causing allergic reactions. Because color is implanted just underneath the dermal layer of the skin, the resulting shade is soft and muted, unlike regular cosmetic makeup that sits on the surface of the skin. Please let us know of any allergies or sensitivities prior to your appointment. We can always do a patch test on your arm during the consultation if required.

How long does a Microblading appointment take?

Microblading appointments are 2-3 hours in length.

Does it hurt?

There can be some discomfort associated with Microblading. We apply a topical numbing cream which typically takes 20-25 minutes to activate. Pain threshold levels vary from person to person, but most clients tell us the discomfort level is 0 to 3 out of 10. We make every effort to ensure our clients remain comfortable throughout the entire procedure. Please let us know if you have any allergies to Lidocaine or Epinephrine prior to your appointment.
